What does MAI mean?

MAI, which stands for Medical Augmented Intelligence, is a US-headquartered software startup committed to immersive, and engaging medical teaching and learning experiences.

Who should use BodyMap or AcuMap?

BodyMap is designed for anyone who is interested in teaching or learning about human anatomy, especially medical instructors, practitioners and students from organizations such as universities, schools and hospitals.AcuMap, on the other hand, is targeted towards traditional, Chinese medicine practitioners to help them learn about acupuncture.

What do I need to use BodyMap or AcuMap?

You do not need to have any medical knowledge, or prior experience with VR. All you need is a VR headset, such as standalone Meta Quest 2 or PC-powered VIVE Pro, to fully immerse yourself in an interactive, virtual learning experience of anatomy or acupuncture.

Where can I download BodyMap or AcuMap?

We have submitted BodyMap to Oculus’ App Lab, and it is currently under view. For the time being, please contact us at hello@mai.ai regarding purchase, license and download of BodyMap or AcuMap.

I do not have medical background. Can I subscribe to your software solutions for personal use?

Yes, you can subscribe to BodyMap or AcuMap for personal use. Our software solutions are made easy to pick up for those who may have little medical knowledge, but are interested in learning about their body and health.

I am a student. How can I use BodyMap?

If you are a student, you can use BodyMap to build your knowledge of the human body, including the 12 body systems, their characteristics and functions in microscopic details, and interact or discuss with your teacher and peers in an online session.

I am a medical practitioner. How can I use BodyMap?

If you are a doctor or instructor, you can use BodyMap to illustrate and explain every body system and its structure, function and connection with health to your patients or students in a VR session using a virtual, interactive model. You can also make use of tools such as brush and pins to assist you when teaching.

I am a student. Can I create a VR session to discuss with my classmates?

Yes, students can have their own VR discussions in BodyMap without an instructor. A student can host a VR session for a maximum of 10 participants, while an instructor can host one for a maximum of 100 participants.

I am an instructor/student. Do I need to use the same headset each time to use BodyMap?

No, you do not need to. You can use your Instructor or Student account to log in and use BodyMap Standalone installed on any VR headset, or BodyMap Pro installed on any Windows PC, depending on which product plan and product version you subscribed to.For example, if you subscribed to a Student account of BodyMap Standalone, you can use BodyMap Standalone on any standalone VR headset.In other words, your account is not “bonded” to any standalone VR headset or Windows PC.

Software

What is BodyMap?

BodyMap is a VR training solution for learning about human body in an immersive, VR environment or online VR session, with an interactive, 1:1 scale model.

What is AcuMap?

Like BodyMap, AcuMap is also a VR training solution, but it is intended for learning about acupuncture, a practice of traditional Chinese medicine.

What is MAI Portal?

MAI Portal is a web-based tracking and managing platform for BodyMap. It enables BodyMap Student, Instructor and Pro users to for example review their quiz results and exam scores, evaluate how much they’ve learned about the structures, and add custom notes to flashcards. For more details on MAI Portal, please check out our Tutorial page. The platform will also support AcuMap in the future.

Can multiple people use BodyMap or AcuMap at the same time?

Yes, you can for example create an online session, and invite up to 100 participants to join the session for real-time interaction and discussion.

How do I add customized notes to a body structure in BodyMap?

First, you need to log in MAI Portal, go to “Organization/Personal Flashcard” at the top, and click on Edit of any body structure to add your personal notes for that body structure. Once you have done so, the notes you added to that body structure will appear in the Notes icon of the flashcard of this body structure in BodyMap. Note that if you’re using an Instructor account, the notes you added will be visible to everyone in your organization.

Can I customize the questions in an exam?

You cannot customize your own questions for an exam at the moment. However, you can choose questions from our question bank, and add them to an exam on MAI Portal. For details on how to add an exam, please check out our Tutorial page.

Where can I find cross-section content in BodyMap?

You can find cross-section contents in the circulatory system (heart), urinary system (kidney), digestive system (teeth), reproductive system (pelvis), and skin system.

Can I create or join a multiplayer VR session via WiFi?

Yes, you can connect via a wireless network from anywhere to explore BodyMap alone or participate in a multiplayer VR session.

How do I take a quiz in a multiplayer VR session?

The Quiz function is disabled in multiplayer VR sessions.

Can I join a VR session created by BodyMap Pro user when I use BodyMap Student or Instructor?

Yes, you can join a VR session hosted by BodyMap Pro user, if he or she enabled the option to allow BodyMap Student or Instructor users to join the session.

Where can I find the screenshots I’ve taken?

You can find the screenshots in the “Media” folder of the “Files” app in the Apps Library.

What is the difference between BodyMap Instructor and BodyMap Student?

The difference is that users with Instructor account, usually teachers and professors, have the ability to:

  1. Create online VR sessions for up to 100 participants
  2. Create quizzes and exams in an online management platform called MAI Portal
  3. Manage users in their organization
  4. Monitor how well the participants perform in quizzes and exams
What languages are supported?

Currently, BodyMap and AcuMap support English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. We are also working on and optimizing the translations for French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, and Vietnamese. Do your prices include the hardware?

No, our prices only include the software—BodyMap or AcuMap—itself. If you need us to help you purchase VR devices, please contact us at support@mai.ai.

What are the prices for BodyMap and AcuMap?

We have two subscription plans for BodyMap and AcuMap: Personal Plan (for individual use) and Institutional Plan (for business use).

Which subscription plan should I purchase?

If you plan to use BodyMap or AcuMap individually for personal and non-commercial purposes, we would recommend you to purchase the Personal Plan. You can subscribe to the BodyMap Personal Plan directly on our Pricing page.

If you belong to an institution, and plan to use it for revenue-generating purposes, like giving anatomy lectures at schools, we would recommend you to purchase the Institutional Plan. Can I try BodyMap or AcuMap for free?

Yes, we offer a 7-day free trial for BodyMap and AcuMap.

Can I get a refund after I subscribe to BodyMap or AcuMap?

You can request a refund within 7 days directly on MAI Portal if you subscribe to the BodyMap Personal Plan. For other inquiries, please contact us at support@mai.ai.

What subscription plan should I purchase in order to host a virtual classroom in BodyMap or AcuMap?

Be it BodyMap or AcuMap, you can host an online session for participants to join and control the participants’ permissions in the session, with either a Personal Plan or Institutional Plan.

How do I pay for the subscription plan?

We accept payments via major credit cards, including Visa and MasterCard.

Will you automatically renew my subscription plan when it expires?

Yes, we will automatically renew your subscription plan of BodyMap or AcuMap before the current subscription period ends.

Hardware

What hardware do I need to use BodyMap or AcuMap?

To use the Personal, Student or Instructor version of BodyMap or AcuMap, you need a standalone VR headset.
To use the Pro version, you need a standalone or PC VR headset, and also a high-end Windows PC to connect to the VR headset for the most optimal experience.

Do I need to have a PC to use BodyMap Pro or AcuMap Pro?

Yes, if you are using BodyMap Pro or AcuMap Pro, you need to connect your VR headset to a high-end Windows PC.

What is the difference between Standalone and PC VR devices?

The difference is that a Standalone VR headset is an all-in-one device that is mobile, and portable, while a PC VR headset needs to connect to a high-end PC through USB cable to give you the best learning experience with the highest resolution.

Which devices are BodyMap and AcuMap compatible with?

BodyMap and AcuMap currently support the following standalone and PC VR devices:

  1. Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest Pro, Oculus Rift S
  2. HTC Focus 3, VIVE Pro, VIVE Cosmos
  3. PICO 4
Is the user account bond to one VR device?

You user account with MAI can be used to access BodyMap and AcuMap, is bond to the version (either Standalone or Pro) you purchased, and can be used on multiple VR devices.

Do you also sell VR headsets together with your software solutions?

Unfortunately, the answer is no, as we are currently focusing on the development of our products. However, we will be glad to connect you with either our local distributors, or one of our hardware collaboration partners to find the best hardware and software solution package that meet your needs.

Troubleshooting

I cannot activate my license key or download BodyMap.

This is most likely due to your network settings. You can try connect to a different WiFi network or your phone’s hotspot. If the problem persists, please contact us at support@mai.ai

I cannot log in BodyMap or AcuMap with my email and password.

Please check that you did not accidentally entered a space before, or after your email address. If you still have trouble logging in, please contact us at support@mai.ai

I was logged out of BodyMap Pro or AcuMap Pro and asked to enter the license key again.

Please make sure your VR headset and PC are connected to the Internet, and then launch BodyMap Pro or AcuMap Pro again. If you still have trouble logging in, please contact us at support@mai.ai

I see the "GPU is not compatible with Quest Link" error message in the Oculus app.

Please check that the GPU driver installed on your Windows PC is up-to-date.

If you still have trouble linking (pairing) a Quest headset to your PC via Quest Link cable, please contact Oculus Support.

I cannot log into Oculus app on my Windows 11 PC.

Please try the following:

  1. Set your default browser to Google Chrome
  2. Install the latest Windows Update

If none of the above solves the issue, please try:

  1. Re-start your PC
  2. Re-install the Oculus app
  3. Download and install this Windows plugin, and re-start your PC

Note: You need to log into Oculus app on your PC in order to launch BodyMap Pro or AcuMap Pro.

I cannot launch BodyMap Pro or AcuMap Pro on my Windows PC.

If you see a missing error saying the app cannot launch because it cannot find “XAPOFX1_5.dll” or “X3DAudio1_7.dll”, please do a Windows update, and then re-start your PC.

If you’re stuck at black screen after launching BodyMap Pro or AcuMap Pro using a Meta Quest headset, please try the following solutions:

Solution 1

  1. Go to C:\Users\(your device's name)\AppData\Local on your PC
  2. Delete the BodyMap folder inside the Local folder
  3. Connect your Meta Quest headset to the PC via Quest Link. Make sure you see a white environment which indicates you’ve successfully connected your headset (See details here).
  4. Launch BodyMap Pro or AcuMap Pro again

Solution 2 (if Solution 1 doesn’t solve the issue)

  1. Launch the Steam VR app, and right click on it to open its Settings
  2. In Settings, go to “OpenXR”, and click on “Set SteamVR as OpenXR Runtime”
  3. Restart your PC
  4. Connect your Meta Quest headset to the PC via Quest Link. Make sure you see a white environment which indicates you’ve successfully connected your headset (See details here).
  5. Launch the Steam VR app. Make sure you see a green or blue headset and 2 controllers which indicates you’ve successfully connected your device.
  6. Launch BodyMap Pro or AcuMap Pro again.

If none of the solutions provided above solves your issue, please reach out to us at support@mai.ai with a description of the steps you took and any relevant screenshots.

My VR controllers won’t connect.

If you are using BodyMap Pro or AcuMap Pro, this issue can usually be resolved after you update to the latest version of Oculus or Steam desktop app on your PC.
If you still have trouble connecting your VR controllers, please contact Oculus Support or VIVE Support

I cannot cast my VR headset to the computer or smartphone.

Please make sure your VR headset is:

  1. Connected to the same WiFi as your computer or smartphone
  2. Logged in with the same Meta (Oculus) account on your smartphone’s Meta Quest app
