Why am I seeing a black screen (sometimes with only a virtual keyboard or boundary visible) when launching BodyMap Pro via Oculus Link?

  • Symptom: The application fails to launch correctly. The headset screen remains black, though basic system UI elements (like the virtual keyboard or Guardian boundary) are partially visible, and there is no response from Oculus Link.
  • Root Cause: This is a communication handshake failure between the PC and the headset. The headset's internal OS is running, but the PC is failing to render or transmit the VR video feed. This is typically caused by a faulty USB connection or a Windows GPU routing conflict.
  • Resolution Steps:
    1. Check the USB Cable & Port: Open the Meta Horizon PC App, navigate to Devices, and run the USB Connection Test. Ensure the cable registers as USB 3.0 with a bandwidth of at least 2 Gbps. Try plugging the cable directly into a USB 3.0 port on the back of the PC motherboard.
    2. Force High-Performance GPU (Crucial for Laptops): Windows may mistakenly route the VR feed through the integrated graphics card instead of the dedicated GPU. Go to Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics. Add and set both the Oculus server (C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\OVRServer_x64.exe) and the BodyMap Pro.exe to High Performance.
    3. Reset Oculus Debug Tool: Open OculusDebugTool.exe (found in C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics) and ensure that Encode Resolution Width and Bitrate are set to 0 (default).
